Application of calcium oxide in steel industry
Calcium oxide has the function of co-solvent in steel industry. In the process of steelmaking, gangue (such as silica, etc.) and other impurities in the ore have high melting points, so it is difficult to remove them directly. Calcium oxide can chemically react with these high-melting substances to form compounds with low melting points. These low melting point compounds enter the slag, reducing the melting point and viscosity of the slag, making the flow of the slag better, which is conducive to the separation of the slag and the liquid steel, improving the smelting efficiency, and also better play the role of the slag in desulfurization, dephosphorization and protection of the furnace lining.
